So I have 4k+ draken burning a hole in my pocket, but I can't decide to go for a dragonache piece or not (for my mage).

    shackles
    + 500 Armor value
    + 500 Fire Resistance
    5,0 % Faster travel speed

    tearholder
    + 40 Damage
    7,5 % Faster attack speed

    bloodtooth
    + 500 Hitpoints
25,0 % Increased critical hit rate

Looking at the set stats it seems best for a DK, or tank ranger. Sure there's damage and crit and bonus for set is damage. But for a mage I would swap that armor and hp for higher crit etc. Right now I have a ring with 300+ crit and 40 damage on it that I'm not willing to swap for either of these. My amulet is full of crit damage and wouldn't give that up for travel speed and defence stats.

I keep wondering too if they will bring out different pieces better suited to mages, or class-specific dragonache pieces and then my draken would have been spent.

Maybe I'm missing something. Would like to hear other players' thoughts. :)

With all three items the set bonus is 125 damage so I think that could make up for your ring. It depends on what else you have.

Any one piece, or even two pieces is useless for me. It sounds like the same for you. My best recommendation is Patience. Either save until you have 12000 and get them all at once, or start collecting them one at a time until you have all three.

You can argue both ways. 500 armor can be good for DK but can also be good for SW. This is because it is harder for a SW to get armor as they get lower armor stats on the right (same for hp). I will just say this again for dragonache: It is very strong for level 45, but will turn weaker and weaker as you upgrade it and level cap raises. This is because the best part about this set is 125 dmg from the set bonus. However, you cannot upgrade set bonuses, so it will turn weaker.

Yes @_Baragain_ , I worked out that it seems only the full set is worth it, for me, and yet still not entirely sure. :)

@NightWalker - yes great point about the future level raises.
I'm not bothered about my armor, I feel it's enough for me. Except for pvp and then I feel that dark set will cover my bases there. But valid point.

I think I will hold off. Ultimately, if one piece isn't going to do it for me then might as well wait.

The set is a dynamite combination, but the question is about a purchase of one piece. So, based on your present gear, would swapping any 1 piece improve your overall offense and defense, and fit your play style right now? You can use the spreadsheets available in other forum locations, or just pick one and try it for a while.
Some people try to maximize their outcomes, some want to minimize their losses, some want to make the best choices on average, and some want to avoid regrets. Which type are you? & how do you apply that to this choice?

Also, if attack speed is a better option for you, consider 2 tear holders with the shackles. I ran that way in PvP for a while, until I got the Ring of Inner Fortitude.

That set is good only for a new players .. but then again ... it is too expensive for them.
By the time they collect 12K drakens ... they will no longer need it. :D

I use the Blood tooth, as I find the HP and crit useful. I'm keeping my Dragon Shackles in the bank until I have enough draken to buy the Tear Holder. Then I'll use the whole set.
