I have never actually kept track of comparative stats for Legendary Items, but maybe someone has???

The question is whether a Legendary from a chest, or a drop (looting mobs) turns out better than one that is merely crafted at the workbench.

    Does anyone know?

    Cheers,

From my experience, I've seen good and bad ones from both categories. I would say, over the average (in the "long-run"), there is no difference. My guild master has ID'd more legendaries than I have, and he agreed with me when I asked him about this.

You're probably going to have people who will post that they disagree with me, but you have to consider the anecdotal factor. How many legendaries have they actually ID'd in total? My guild master and I have more than 6 years of play experience, total, between us ;)

I've only been playing 7 months and keep track of everything. I have been told by many people that crafting is better, but I have not found that to be the case. Crafting and drops seem to be equally random like everything else.

My best pieces were crafted from improved items to magic to extraordinary to legendary, by only using identical items. (No mixed items or mixed levels, no "dirty" crafting, was involved.) I think it improves the odds of getting fractional counts of the lower items included in the counts for the final legendary item. Please note: you can still get lots of lousy results this way, with DSO's random feature, but the process does seem better than any single, random drop in the last 10 months.

Farming the highest dungeon available seems to get slightly better items of each type, but that might be an illusion.

It may be that DSO is backing off the quality of the drops, ahead of the release of the new level 46-50 items. If so, bring on the new items!

I've always had better luck from crafted items myself. Well, I use to anyway. Haven't IDed nothing in several months. But most of my gear is from crafted items.

Like Darwarren said though....it's better if it's the same item with about the same attributes

As far as I know, the logic for the determination of the quality of items is only upon ID.

I haven't noticed difference either way. It is always the same crappy stats. :D

Exactly! No matter the source - crafted or found - we get about 99% junk / 0.9% useful (if you don't have better already) / and ... maybe... 0.1% very nice. These are just approximations, of course, but probably pretty close ones.

The only thing that's worse, at least for us on the Agathon server, is Khalys's drop rate... unless you like pauldrons and masks, that is o_O

That's pretty generous.. I was thinking more like 99.5% junk, 0.4% tolerable and of course is found with limited gem spots, and 0.1% nice.

IF everyone got good stats on items we would be referring to those as "crappy", the game would be unbalanced blah blah blah.... I like that most of the farming and crafting I end up doing is not super, this keeps me looking and playing and enjoying and ultimately when I get a good item really chuffed.

that's true..i would like to add..when I crafted my wand for example..i made about 5 of them ..all legendary ...all off one dragon..they were all different too..i melted the cheaper weakones and kept one....it had afew slots and all I had to do was farm the ander for another slot...the drop legendaries..lol I have found a bunch too..most were weaker than the crafted.i also mixed level 45 wand with my new lower level(38) wand gear so I could use it..that wand came out nice...great damage and it had one slot less than I hoped but it has strong base.. added gems and now I just need 999999999 glyghs to add levels..lol
