An idea to make onyx gem usefull

I hate it when an onyx drops... They're not a real option. Out of the three attack gems they're the most useless. They lose out to sapphires on weapon adornments and to rubies on weapons and I cant see a way around this. It's a gem class no one likes.

I think that we could revitalize the onyx gem if they became insertable in shields and books. there's already items geared to increase the crit rate and the onyx would be a nice way to enhance these items while keeping the real defensive items defensive.

I think this is a good idea and I'm wondering why this hasn't been suggested before. What does the community say?

 

I got better idea. They should be used in cloaks.

 

i really like idea of using onyx in cloacks, that would be awsome , i have 2 flawless and 1 radiant onyx that are only gathering dust in my locker, so bigpoint here is great idea

 

Wouldn't mind being able to put them in cloaks, or gloves even. I'd gladly give up the 375 HP worth of gems that I have on my gloves in exchange for 600-800 worth of crit gems.

Good thinking, but it would not be good for game to have 5 slots on cloak, 2 slots is fine. Here is why it would be ok to have 2 slot instead of 5 slot on cloak:

We all know cloak on 45 level have 160 critical hit value + 2 slots for Onyx gems, lets say 2x 160 critical = 480 critical + 400 (weapon adorment) = 880 total.
Keen/Yachak/Roshan/Spark + 10% critical hit value = in this care +88 critical
Dragonache +25% critical hit value = +220 critical
Dark helmet +35% critical hit value = + 308 critical
Total = 1496 critical

 

If you have a crit damage alternate weapon that would be a place for the onyx gems.

I put my sapphires in my claw and my rubies into my sword. I put my onyx gems into my vargulf mace as I use the vargulf set as a switch for 5v5 flag running. Since the set has decent crit damage it actually works well.

 

I would rather have winter cloak (3% better drop) and some others being gems, that could be inserted into a cloak only. So you could use your favorite whatever cloak and have all the adds like 'better' drop or fater mounting time.

As for the Onyx, I hate it too. Have one +200 in crystal, and it is kind of I don't like it, but trashing is not an option either. That is, however, a way to ballance your char. Who knows, one could easily lack some crit in his pure damage setup.
