Longbow & Shortbow uses

Hey, I wanted to know when I'm flying solo should i use shortbow and with friends or guild should I use longbow for power? Also, umm nah ok when I find a screenshot app for chrome that works then ya'll can give tips and help me out on my ranger. But yeah shortbow or longbow with guild, solo, and bosses.

 

The real answer is going to be found when you look at the total power of each bow. A longbow with extremely high % increase damage will be very helpful. Your bow bash might kill the mob and scatter shot might almost kill some.

With out a really high damage long bow shirt bow might be the way to go for now.

 

When you are running with a group, you role will normally be to do as much damage as possible as fast as possible except for those times when you need to be the tank if you have gear for it. So with damage being the main contribution; the bow, short or long, that can produce that result the best is the way to go. I'd personally love to have two sets of damage gems so I could switch between the two depending on the group. Less essence burn with long bow and generally higher damage is possible. But, most use short for everything simply because they prefer the speed in PVP and the expense of moving the gems to a long bow for PVE is prohibitive.

So, my recommendation for PVE is to use whichever one you have that gets stuff killed the fastest.

I couldn't agree more - still , after upgrading to level 50 it gives me a decent damage... of course I am still crafting in hope to get a better weapon

 

Shortbow is usually best but if you can find a extraordinary or legendary warbow or another type of long bow in your travels with more speed then it's definitly worth using, i have an extraordinary warbow with + speed on it so it's just about as fast as a shortbow but it's a rare drop for longbows so mostly your better using a shortbow.

I'm play Solo and use Long Bow for my adventure

 

I play solo as well and have a legendary sharpshooter, (was the old war bow before the changes) with about a 40% speed increase so works rather well for me

 

I also solo PvE with a longbow. I've been lucky with longbows. I used to have a Magic/blue one that gave so much dps, no Extraordinary (long/short) I could find was better; it finally took a Legendary (longbow) to replace it. And since then, I've been using a Legendary longbow which replaced that Legendary.

I've yet to find, eg, a sunleather shortbow (admittedly, the coolest looking bow) anywhere near powerful enough to replace my current LB (the best SB I've found I kept and play with from time to time, because it is so cool-looking). Sure, it looks great having 2+ attack speed ... but when I switch back to the LB (which is no slouch in the speed department either, thanks to the new skill system), and I'm killing monsters with half the shots or less ... well, shortbow looks like a lot of work for half the results, especially when I'm 1-shotting/2-shotting approaching creatures with the LB.

Essentially (imho), for PvE, I think stats > LB/SB. If you find any bow that kills things faster, for whatever reason, that's your *better* bow.

Reading through this and other threads regarding LB vs SB, as well as lately playing more with a shortbow (change of pace), something has occurred to me: higher attack speed seems to benefit only the multi-strike weapons, especially the green arrow. What about single-strike attacks, like the thicket of thorns or bird of prey? Since you fire only one at a time, does attack speed matter with these single strikes? Seems like only damage counts, or do the single-strike projectiles simply fly faster?
