    Equipment Crafting Guide
Part 1: Anatomy of an Item

Understanding items and what the different values forms the foundational basics of understanding crafting.

The following text has been adapted from Velveteenduck's video guide with permission.

There are seven rarities of items, each with a corresponding colour. These are common, improved, magic, extraordinary, legendary, unique, and sets. As far as crafting is concerned, common items are useless and can be sold for gold.

Examples of items and their rarities:
    CommonImprovedMagicExtraordinaryLegendaryUniqueSet Item
    Common icon.png Improved icon.png Magic icon.png Extraordinary icon.png Leg Icon.png Unique icon.png Set icon.png

When you hover over an item, you’ll get a tooltip. The default view hides much of the info, so you can either press the hotkey Y to trigger the advanced view temporarily, or permanently set it to the advanced view under settings, which is what I would strongly advise doing, otherwise the rest of the crafting guide won’t make much sense.

The top portion of the item are base values, which are just absolute numbers that add to your character sheet. These can be either coloured white for lower values, gold for values between 76-90% of the maximum value, and platinum for values 91-100% of the maximum value. Please remember that these values scale according to the level of the item and the maximum item level in the game is 145 at the moment. There is no way to transfer these stats, so you will have to pray Lady Luck will give you good equipment with gold, or ideally, platinum base values on a high level item.

The next portion of interest in relation to crafting are enchantments, which are always percentage values. This is the portion of an item that can be transferred from one item to the next. All enchantments modify the matching base values and gems slotted into that item and that item only, including the misleading “increased weapon attack speed.” The amount it adds on is included in brackets in green. Blue coloured values are for lower values, gold is for values between 76-90% of the maximum value, and platinum for 91-100% of the maximum value. Again, remember that enchantments scale to the level of the item it originated from.

Enchantments are also important because different rarities will have different numbers of enchantments. Common items have none and thus are useless, improved items have one, magic items have two, extraordinary items have 3, legendary items have 4, and unique and set items can have three or four depending on the particular item.

Your end goal is to have a collection of legendary, unique, or set items, each crafted with 4 platinum lines that complement your playstyle.

    Part 2: Rarity Upgrade Crafting

The following text has been adapted from Velveteenduck's video guide with permission.

To start rarity upgrading, you need to take the quest with Matthew Allthings in Kingshill. He’ll ask you to gather some items in Hagastove Grotto, then you’ll get your first experience of using the workbench. Any workbench in town will do, and if you have a high wisdom level you can also have a portable Workbench. You can search through the tabs for quest items if it doesn’t automatically show it. Right click to place items on the workbench and spend a small quantity of coins to complete the quest. Follow the quest line to Petyax, who will eventually reward you with a recipe to unlock Rarity Upgrade Crafting for improved to magic items.

If you have accidentally deleted the recipe, or your character is one of those that didn’t get their recipes converted over correctly with the Dark Legacy content expansion, you’ll need to contact support to resolve these issues.

To unlock the recipes higher than the initial one given by Petyax, look in the Crafting section of your achievements, which can be accessed via default hotkey Q. You’ll need to craft 10 magic items to obtain the rarity upgrade recipe for extraordinary items and craft 20 extraordinary items to obtain the rarity upgrade recipe for legendary items.

In order to start rarity upgrade crafting, you need glyphs of power. This currency can be obtained by taking equipment to a Blacksmith in any urban area and selecting the option to melt items. There is also a portable Smelter for sale from Zumpe for clovers, which gives the convenience of being able to melt anywhere, but this is a bad purchase for new players to make. Right click on equipment to place them in the furnace and melt it down. The amount of glyphs an item will offer is written at the bottom of the item tooltip. All equipment rarities except common items can be melted for glyphs.

Once you’ve obtained enough glyphs, go to the workbench and place four Improved items onto the workbench. The four items must belong to at least two different equipment slots. By equipment slots I mean the thirteen different possible slots: neck, back, hips, ring finger, weapon adornment, main hand, off hand, double-hand, head, shoulders, torso, hands and feet. These four items will be consumed and you will receive one item in return, one rarity higher.

In terms of the output product, it will be influenced by the equipment originally placed on the workbench. Each slot confers a 25% chance to obtain an item of that particular type. Please keep in mind that some items, such as offensive and defensive offhands, are actually considered the same on the workbench, so you can get either if you use rarity upgrade crafting on the workbench.

Factors such as how many gem slots you’ve opened on ingredient items, how good or bad the base values and enchantments are, dyes or applied skins do not affect the output product.

As for the level of the product, I know the description on the workbench states it is going to be “randomly selected” from one of the ingredients, but bug alert, it actually gives you the product based on the average level of the ingredients as of the time I’m making this video.

Now some of you are probably sitting there still a bit baffled as to why anyone would want to participate in this casino version of the workbench at all. There’s only two reasons why anyone would want to do it. For all players, it is a must to complete the series of achievements required to unlock enchantment transfer crafting that will be vital to moving forward to higher difficulty levels. For extremely wealthy players who have accumulated loads of glyphs of power, they can use high level equipment that they’ve stripped of all their useful enchantments, in this form of crafting to re-roll for a chance of better base values and enchantments. The latter method is expensive, so I do not recommend any new players engage in this kind of activity, and it should only be reserved for players already well acquainted with the game and now in the stage of searching for perfect stats.

    Part 3: Enchantment Transfer Crafting

The following text has been adapted from Velveteenduck's video guide with permission.

To unlock Enchantment Transfer Crafting, you need to finish the achievement Fabric of Legends, where you’ll need to use Rarity Upgrade crafting to make 30 legendary items. You can check on this with default hotkey Q.

Enchantment transfer comes in two different varieties: single enchantment transfer, and all enchantment transfer. There are no slot restrictions for this type of crafting, so you are allowed to exchange the enchantments from any item to any other item.

Let’s start with the single enchantment transfer crafting. When two items are placed onto the workbench, you can hover over each item to see the possible enchantments. The order in which the enchantment lines appear on the tooltip corresponds to its number in the drop down menu below it. From the drop-down menu, you can then select which enchantment you want to swap with the other item. The preview window on the right side only shows one item, but actually you will receive back both of your items when the crafting is complete. Pay a small quantity of glyphs of power, and voila, the enchantments are swapped.

Moving on to the all enchantment transfer feature. The description of how this works on the workbench is poorly written, as it suggests that only items with the same number of enchantments can be swapped using this method. This is generally true when considering only improved, magic and extraordinary items.

However, it is not true when considering legendary, unique, and set items. Important! Some unique and set items only come with 3 lines of enchantment by default, but you can still swap its enchantments with a legendary item to create a unique or set item with four lines of enchantment. As a result, you will also create a legendary with only 3 lines of enchantment as a useless byproduct.

As such, there are two strategies to utilize this enchantment transfer crafting. If you are so fortunate as to obtain a legendary, unique, or set item with 4 lines of enchantments by default that you want to use because it has good base values, you can just use single enchantment transfer four times and plaster all the good stats onto that item immediately.

Now, in a much more likely scenario, you’ll find good enchantments faster than you can find the perfect gear item that you want. And even when you find the perfect piece of equipment that you want, it may be a unique or set item with only 3 lines of enchantment by default. Take a garbage legendary, preferably of a lower level to save some glyphs of power, and use it to collect the 4 lines of enchantments on it. Then use the “all enchantments” transfer option to move those lines you’ve been diligently collecting onto the perfect item.

And the last scenario for using this equipment transfer crafting is when you have found new equipment with better base values. Rather than start from scratch, you can transfer existing enchantments, assuming they’re decent, onto your new equipment.

As for what exact enchantments you will place on the item, you need to look at the base values of the item. You should always aim to have 4 matching lines of enchantment on a single piece of equipment. Those enchantments should be modifying a matching base value, and the matching gems slotted in for the best character growth. Bonus fact here: look at unique values too. If the unique value on an item also happens to match the enchantment type on an item, you’ll get increased values applied to that too.

    Part 4: Equipment Creation Crafting

The following text has been adapted from Velveteenduck's video guide with permission.

Please note, there are actually two equipment creation systems. The first one is the old one for very specific event uniques such as Dragan’s Incensed Weapons, Amulet of Deflection & Helios Amulets. These uniques are not the focus as they are the minority as well as event-specific.

The second equipment creation system is what’s the focus here. Uniques and sets that drop from bosses, whether it’s from scaling bosses such as the Gorga uniques, Parallel Worlds, Anderworld - the old and the new Mortis sets, events uniques, and cloaks have been added to this system.

If it doesn’t drop from a boss, there probably isn’t a recipe for it!

To start, you need to obtain the recipe. You unlock these through the achievements under Crafting. Each of these achievements follow the same pattern: You have to kill a specific boss to obtain the boss ingredient. While you can unlock the achievement by farming many different difficulty modes, please remember that when crafting you need 100 items of the same rarity, you can’t mix and match. You can obtain more than one piece of boss ingredient per run, so it’s definitely possible to reach 100 pieces of boss ingredient in fewer than 100 runs.

Let’s talk about Parallel World uniques first. To craft these, you’ll need 100 of a boss ingredient, 500 ores, an item of any rarity that matches the slot you’re crafting for, and the appropriate Parallel World Ring. The boss ingredient and the ores must be of the same rarity. The crafting will not go forward if they do not match. The ores placed in the second slot determine the quality of the enchantments. The resulting product’s level will be determined by whichever item has the higher level in slot 3 or 4. Meaning you can make the generic item level 145, or the Parallel World ring level 145 and the product will be level 145. Both items do not need to be level 145.

Now let’s talk about the non-Parallel World uniques and sets. The crafting is basically identical with one big exception - there is no need for a fourth ingredient of a Parallel World Ring. Other than that, there is one extremely important point here. Any scaled regional items normally caps at level 140 items, and Parallel Worlds are the only way to obtain level 145 items. By using the workbench, you’re able to create level 145 versions of these items that normally wouldn’t even exist in the game if you waited for a drop. So y’know, if you were planning to use a Gorga unique or an event item, maybe craft it instead of waiting for a drop. You can get it 5 levels higher that way.

And the last category of equipment creation crafting are the cloaks. The biggest difference from the previous few recipes is the cloak crafting requires Yarn instead of Ores. Yarn can be obtained both as drops, as well as from unravelling cloaks that drop. The rarity of the yarn you get when you unravel a cloak is determined by the rarity of the cloak. A common cloak? Common yarn. Improved cloak? Improved yarn. Easy peasy.

Alright, with all that said and done, let’s get to the last few condensed farming tips I have.

For Parallel World uniques, it’s possible to never kill that Parallel boss and still get their uniques as long as it has a matching boss in the normal world. Sorry Grimmag. That’s what you get for bullying us in the Tutorial. For everyone else, you can farm the normal world boss both to complete the achievement, as well as the ingredient to use on the workbench. While it does cost Keys of Prowess to enter these dungeons, the tradeoff is that these bosses are significantly easier to kill than their Parallel World counterparts and you also get access to lower difficulties from Painful to Fatal that don’t exist in the Parallel Worlds. Remember that boss ingredient drops are guaranteed in Painful mode and up.

If you’re running low on infernal fragments, save them for doing boss runs to get the Legendary Boss Ingredients. Instead, farm your Legendary Ores in a place like the Great Desert, where the monsters will continuously respawn, and you can sell using the portable wisdom shop to empty your inventory if it gets full.

Remember that there’s an item in-game called the Jewel of the Ingredient Hunter. This item makes your life that much more efficient and can only be obtained from the Glowing Cave.
