    Item Bonuses

This is the million dollar question. Whether because you want to pound your PvP opponent into the dirt or get to hard to kill bosses, everyone wants to be the best they can be.

How you decide to gear your character is up to you depending on your play style. Some players prefer to focus on survival stats (max health, armor, block rate). Some prioritize damage stats (most damage or chance of critical hit). Others like to keep their character balanced.

    Common bonuses found on loot:
    Equipment TypePossible enchantments
    Helmets
    • + % Health
    • + % Damage
    • + % Critical Hit Value
    Gloves
    • + % Health increased on this item
    • + % Damage increased on this item
    • + % Attack Speed
    Boots
    • + % Health increased on this item
    • + % Damage increased on this item
    • + % Travel Speed
    Amulets
    • + % Critical Damage
    • + % Health
    • + Block Strength
    Rings
    • + % Critical Damage
    • + % Health on this item

    Belts

    Torsos
    • + % Damage
    • + % Armor Value
    • + % Armor Value on this item
    Weapon Adornment
    • + % Damage
    • + % Critical hit value
    • + % Critical damage
    • + % Attack Speed
    One-handed weapons
    • + % Damage
    • + % Increased damage on this item
    • + % Critical damage
    • + % Attack speed
    Two-handed weapons
    • + % Damage
    • + % Increased damage on this item
    • + % Critical damage
    Offensive offhands
    • + % Critical Damage
    • + % Increased critical hit value on this item
    • + % Faster Attack Speed
    Defensive offhands
    • + % Improved block rate on this item
    • + Block Strength
    • + % Health

    What these enchantments mean:

    • + % Increased damage - Add an overall damage bonus defined by the percentage of the total damage; damage gems will also be calculated into the total damage percentage.
    • + % Increased damage on this item - applies damage bonus to an item, including any flat +damage lines, and to damage gems slotted onto the item.
    • + % Increased Critical hit value - add an overall critical hit bonus defined by the percentage of the total critical hit.
    • + % Critical hit value on this item - applies a critical hit bonus to an item, including any flat +critical hit lines, and to critical hit gems slotted onto the item.
    • + % Critical damage - Increases the damage from a critical hit by the stated %age. Remember: If you don't have any critical hit value, critical damage won't do any good!
    • + % All Resistance values* - Increases your resistance against fire, lightning, poison, ice, and andermagic.
    • + % All Resistance values on this item - applies a resistance value bonus to an item, including any flat +resistance values lines, and to resistance gems/runes slotted onto the item
    • + % Attack Speed - Increases how often your character will attack - be aware that for Spellweavers, Rangers and Steam Mechanicus, this also means that you will consume mana/concentration/steam at a faster rate than normal, while for Dragonknights this means that you will effectively be able to gain rage faster than normal. Attack speed bonuses are multiplicative values. For example, if a weapon with a base speed of 0.83 has a speed gem with a 5.00% attack speed bonus, the final attack speed will be 0.83 * 1.05 = 0.87 attacks per second.
    • + % Health - Increases your total health points by a certain %age.
    • + % Health on this item - applies a health points bonus to an item and to life gems/runes slotted onto the item
    • + % Armor Value* - Increases your total armor value, which helps to lower the amount of physical damage you take from enemies.
    • + % Armor Value on this item - applies a armor value bonus to an item and to armor gems/runes slotted onto the item.
    • + % Block Rate* - Increases your chance of "blocking" an attack from an enemy.
    • + Block Strength* - Decreases the damaged received during a "Block."
    • + % Travel speed - Increases movement speed of character
*Numerical values are converted to a percentage value based on a sliding scale and your current level.

    Viewing Character Stats:

Open your character window (hotkey "C") to view your current character build. Hover the mouse over stats to view the actual percentage effect against enemies of similar level.

Gems & Runes to Strengthen Character Build
Gems are very useful in increasing various stats (e.g.: damage, armor, health...). Gems can be purchased through the Trader (hotkey "T") or the Jeweler and may also be dropped by random mobs when killed. Many of the items in game have empty gem slots so that you can outfit your character however you see fit. You can even add slots at by visiting the Jeweler in town. Please refer to the Gems FAQ for details on gem stats.

About Runes, please refer to the Runes FAQ for more detailed information
    Attack Speed Guide
The following text has been adapted from Velveteenduck's video guide with permission.

If you’ve ever moused over the attack speed stat on your character sheet, you’ll notice it says attack speed is capped at 4.0. This is not entirely true. For anyone below 4.0 attack speed, as you add attack speed to your character, you’ll notice the attack speed changes every time you cross a threshold, otherwise known as attack speed breakpoints. The chart for this can be found on the DSO wiki.

It is possible to attain an attack speed higher than 4.0, but there will be no visible change in attack speed from the highest break point. But, once you break the 4.0 attack speed barrier and look at your character sheet again, you’ll notice a new line of text at the bottom - you can now start collecting Battle Anger stacks with every attack. These stacks only last for 5 seconds. For every .5 attack speed past 4 that you collect, you can gain more stacks per each attack, up to an attack speed of 6.5. Upon reaching 100 stacks, you’ll now gain a buff called Unleashed Rage that grants you 100% increased damage for 30 seconds… with no cooldown! This means if you’re able to regain your Battle Anger stacks fast enough, you’ll be able to keep this buff active at all times in combat.

Based on everything thus far, completely new players should aim to cross the 4.0 attack speed as soon as possible to start benefiting from Battle Anger buff. Once you’ve crossed that threshold, then you can slowly work your way up to an attack speed of 6.5. Anything more than 6.5 is just a waste. Remember, if this guide has helped you out, be sure to leave a like and subscribe.

To obtain attack speed, you need to look for equipment with attack speed in the base values or unique values. Craft enchantments with “increased weapon attack speed” onto these items. Please keep in mind that the text for this type of enchantment is misleading. It really should say “increased attack speed on this item,” because that’s how it actually works. If you need help with crafting, you can look at a crafting guide. Place attack speed gems, called Zircons into these items to benefit from the enchantments too. You can have a maximum of 30 Zircons equipped. This means for new players they’ll probably have 4 items focused on attack speed, and endgame players should aim to have 3 items maximum, each with 10 slots. Let’s not forget runes too. Every one should aim to have 5 Runes of Celerity, preferably maxed out at Legendary rarity.

Depending on the class you play, you may also have skills that can increase your attack speed, such as the Dragonknight’s Rage Attack. If used appropriately, you can use fewer pieces of equipment with attack speed and use those slots for something else.

Wisdom is also important. Make sure you select the appropriate type of weapon speed for your weapon. I would suggest all new players go the route of a 1-handed weapon to get more attack speed. If you want to switch to 2-handed weapon later on, that’s your choice.

There are also pets, physics and tonics that can increase attack speed, but these are bandaid solutions and should only be used short term as there are better stats to be gained from these items.

    Cloak
    There are many Cloak options!
    1. Purchase a cloak for andermant -- no quest required.
    2. Participate in Zahir's quest-line for the Cloak of Power -- requiring costs in coins to complete.
    3. Participate in events that award a cloak. Event cloaks will generally scale to your level at the time you obtained the cloak.

    Andermant Cloaks:
Browse through the cloak options and you may choose to purchase one you find suitable. After you meet the qualifications and purchase one of these cloaks, immediately access the powers of a cloak on your shoulders by slipping one into the cloak slot of your inventory.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Quest-Related Cloaks:
Once you reach the requirements to wear a cloak, unlock the quest-line from Zahir, the Quest Keeper in Kingshill, and you may choose to complete the quests to create your very own cloak. Purchase the "Contracts," from Zahir, himself, to complete the associated quest.

Zahir offers a 5 part series of quests that must be completed in sequential order:

    • Cloak of Initiation
      • Unlocked at lvl 11
      • Can equip at lvl 23
    • Cloak of Insight
      • Unlocked at lvl 27
      • Can equip at lvl 28
    • Cloak of Wisdom
      • Unlocked at lvl 32
      • Can equip at lvl 34
    • Cloak of Enlightenment
      • Unlocked at lvl 36
      • Can equip at lvl 37
    • Cloak of Power
      • Unlocked at lvl 39
      • Can equip at lvl 40
Start off the quest-line by creating the Cloak of Initiation. Gather all the required items from monsters in their respective location. Purchase the Contract related to the quest. Turn in the quest and you will receive the first cloak and unlock the following quest. Each quest will lead you to more difficult locations, require a higher cost for the Contract and reward you with higher quality cloaks.

For more information regarding this quest line, see Quest: Cloak of Power.

Where can I see what cloaks are available in DSO?
    See this page about Cloaks.
