New way to attact new players is translating this game in more language.
Also more forums in new languages with info about the game , items, events, quests.
Instead of an open way of bussines they are shuting down the forums.
Just an example, on my regional forum i have a guild recruiting topic , now they close the forum so i cand put that on EN forum that means no new members and if we dont have groups to farm more players will quit my guild or they will stop play the game.
Also i have a facebook page for my guild but ther is poor integration and you dont have any prize for recruiting.
There was long time ago prizes for recruiting members in dso but they have delete that feature from game.

Merging servers is wrong and counterproductive

That would be true if they were marketing the game. Since they obviously have no desire to do that, the only option left is merging the forgotten servers.

Markenting the game in the way it is now will be suicide.
This game has a level of pay to win much higher that many other games and that could be fatal if you have an agressive marcheting that attract players and also gamers that make reviews.
If they make all thinghs in game that can boost your characther to be bought only with gold( gems, elixires, potions,) and costume, pets, mounts, emotes only with andermant and those should not provide any improuvements, maybe they can have a chance.
In my opinion this premium and costumes mounts can provide some nice revenue if you have a big number of players.
This model has been implemented with succes on other popular games so they should do that and after that they should get popular with marketing strategies.
But i guess this pay to win model is implemented on all BP games so it will be impossible to change that.

I don't trust the devs to merge the servers correctly. :p

All the doomsayers have been saying this same old stuff (with some variation) since before I quit the game and came back. Just market the damn game already so I can log on and see more than 5 green dots in Cardhun. :D

Well the biggest advertiser according to a lot of people is the players themselves. (people thinking wow I want a build that strong)

Now if you think about it how many players has youtube channels and or has tried.
Now if Bigpoint does not want to advertise their game, we the players can.
Example let us say a said player of this game is a social media marketing specialist.
Let us presume that the said player is a member of over 300 advertising groups, local and international.
Now lets say there is a group of players that will be able to share in different social media groups, we would be able to muster a few 100k players to the said servers in the very minimum.
    [Update]
There just posted in 4 groups :)

Promotion ... and in same time reminder to all those who are claiming PvP has never been a main driver in this game.

It is also the main reason people spend money.

I used to do this back before R155. Honestly I am surprised that they keep Tegan. Like Snow, I have no faith that they could merge servers correctly, but sooner or later the lack of players will cause something to happen. I would rather see a merge than a deleted server.

As far as advertising for DSO.....

Am I supposed to advertise that DSO has been doing their absolute best to drive players from the game?

How about the fact that they only do bot bans every 3 years or so?

Maybe spend my time in the main game that I play talking about how wonderful it is that DSO goes out of their way to nerf players, nerf sets, nerf skills, nerf drop rates every 30 or so releases?

I know, I can suggest to others how fantastic it is that pvp is now 1 hit, 1 kill, that is sure to encourage someone to give this game a try.

Edit to add more fun reasons that the game could be promoted.

If by some mistake DSO creates an awesome event that players love, they either eliminate from the game (Sargon) or remove the rewards and add so much grind that no one begs for it anymore (Dragan).

Maybe I could tell others how well DSO listens to players? Like taking 16 months to get feedback on moon events only to ignore every last suggestion.

How about when players beg for years to get something obvious like event bags or ess bags that if it happens, takes years after the dev's tell us it might come to the game.

Perhaps I should share all the info about the new class that was going to be introduced several years ago?

There are of course other fun things like uniques added to boss drops, then removed, then added again, and then removed again.

The ultimate fun would be the quests that take days or weeks to finish with rewards that are nowhere near worth taking the time to complete (1000 gold cloak quest).

I guess the most fantastic part is when the dev's finally decide to allow some uniques drop (keens set) but make sure that before they flip that switch they make the set pretty much useless.

Let us not forget all the fun items that can only be bought instead of allowing players to farm them during events.

In the end, all I can honestly say is that if someone really wants a pay to win game, maybe give DSO a try and hope that your time and money lasts more than 30 releases.

Before someone asks "why do I stay", the answer is that DSO hasn't been my main game since the mighty nerf of 155. My limited playing time comes in spurts. I may play a lot one week, then not sign on for week or more.

It isn't that DSO couldn't be a great game, it is simply that I know for a fact that sooner or later all of my time and effort (or any money I may spend) will be wasted when the dev's decide to "update" the game.

How do I in good conscience suggest someone else waste their time and money only to lose it in a nerf?

From my previous experience, it could still be possible that their office may not be in their advertised location here in San Francisco. Moreover, I may be wrong, BP founder has told that BP will not advertise their game in USA.

I don't actually remember when I started playing DSO, all I remember is that back then the level cap was 20. Since then I quit the game 4 times for various reasons. Last time it was 2 years ago because Tegan was no longer fun to play at - it became too hard to find a decent party, hard to find good players, most of my friends left.. oh, and the PvP was extremely unbalanced. I was hoping that the devs would eventually see the reasoning behind players requests to make cross-server migration possible and that one day I could return and play again on another server without starting from scratch. But that never happened. Few days ago I logged in to see if anything changed ever since and I wasn't really suprised to see 0 players in Kingshill area...

And what would you achieve by merging one ghost server with another ghost server? A bigger ghost server? Much better option would be letting the players transfer their toons to one of the EU servers. I've been playing on grimmag server for a few days now - it has lots and lots of players and PvP waiting times are quite short, the only problem is - not so many players understand even basic English

You'd get a moderately active server.
No thank you. I like my latency as is and am not too interesting in increasing it by 50%-100% by putting an entire ocean between me and the servers.

I think you all know EDIT. Released some 2 years after DSO, now having about 20k active players a month on average, and sometimes double the number after updates and such. Where do they get their money to push the game? They sell pretty much just skins so there's absolutely no pay to win plague in that game. Every single reviewer changes their pants from their excitement.

DSO, drop the pay-to-get-better-faster-than-free-players system and embrace the fact that these days, people are happy to spend their money on useless but badass looking skins, auras, pets, and such.

The current system is not motivating. Speaking only for myself, even if I'm willing to pay, I won't because I know I cannot afford paying as much as heavy payers so this would only boost me a little bit which would be pointless.

Also the tutorial bit of DSO should be reworked again. The first 20 minutes or so up to the battle with Grimmag are boring.
First minutes are the most important to blow you away.
Also the character selection screen is not pretty. Make a skippable intro using artworks and maybe some pre-rendered footage like we could see in some of the old trailers. You know, so it feels epic.

Also make use of your epic music!

    (2:28 - end)

Players, reviewers, youtubers, and streamers need to feel this game is not about paying out of necessity. Sure it's not, you can farm heavily instead. But the whole premium account / premium currency thing is all -in your face- in DSO. First merchant you visit has stuff for andermant. It's like placing red flags everywhere.

I agree with OP's post completely.

Probably is, I don't think any sane developer would make the changes to the game that negatively affect it and make players quit which lowers their player base and income unless they are aware the source they get their money from isn't going to be affected by players leaving.

Have you seen the plans for PvP? It *may* raise the new population, but it will drive away many long time PvP'ers… you know, the ones who spend money on this game and actually support it?

I thought this thread was as dead as this game was, but then someone necro'd it. :D Well, nothing has changed (quite literally) in several months. At this point, not only do they need to advertise to get new peeps, they need new content to keep their old on board. Right now, i spend more time on the forums than I do in-game most days, which is surely a bad sign.

As for shifting towards a "pay to look pretty" model vs a "pay to one-shot everything" model--I've advocated for this for years to no avail. The best the devs seem capable of doing is making old content free (mostly by rendering things obsolete), then promptly adding so many new barriers to becoming the new OP that requires $$$ to reach.
