Classic Ship Designs

How about bringing back old ship designs for a limited time?
I mean ships like the Klimatu or the Pirate King.

 

This suggestion has been brought up many times in the past and at times an event has been introduced or brought back into game play that features older ship designs that players can work hard to obtain. It is unclear when or if we will see this event come back and or what ship designs will be featured. You will have to look in the Event and Official announcements sections of the forum.

 

The ones that have already been brought back, fair enough bring them back again. But the ones that are still rare skins, leave them how they are! As soon as a rare skin comes out everybody thinks "Oh great I love this skin", buys it, and then within a week they're sick of it as every player on the server is wearing it. Take the Accipiter which came out recently. This was originally one of the most loved and desired designs on the game. I know people (yes, people, more than just one person!!) who wrote to support offering to pay hundreds of pounds for the skin. The skin then came out for everybody to buy in the VIP Market, and only a month later everybody is sick of it, the skin has no value and nobody has benefitted.

A lot of great rare skins have already been ruined this way. Burning Dutchman, Nerus, Christmas White, Advent 2007, the Ghost skins... They used to be something to show off, something to show you were a player way back then when they came out, but now everybody's first impression is "Oh he bought that in the market" or "He must have gotten that skin off the Pirate Lords event". It just takes away the entire novelty of having a rare skin. I appreciate that for those that do not have a rare skin that they want something, and that's fair enough, but I don't think taking away value from other players rare designs is the way to go about it.

Personally, as a player with a good handful of rare and desirable skins (Accipiter and Hastorus before Accipiter became common, along with then 5 unique event designs over the last 2 years) I would hate to have these brought back out. I put a lot of time and effort into getting those and despite some of them looking ugly theyre still a trophy of sorts, that I would hate to have spoilt.

I don't mean to be harsh on the newer player who didn't get these opportunities, but once you've been playing for 7-8 years, then designs you have now will probably be even rarer. If they didn't play back then then they didn't play back then. Simple as that. They're not benefitting in any way from getting an old rare skin either. They don't need rare skins, so why ruin it for the long-lasting skin collectors?

I appreciate that you can understand how this would effect many players like me. There are many "classic" skins that have been brought back however which look really nice. The Ghost Kilimatu and other Ghost skins have been out a few times in payment packs and in events, as well as skins like the Burning Dutchman, Pirate King, Nerus/Syanite and Black Inferno (Intenium Platinum). I expect these will be released more times in the future too through the use of Pirate Lords events and payment packs.

I completely agree on this. I got both Syanite and Nerus designs during the same event where they were introduced for the first time and now they feel kinda ruined when they brought them back to later events, especially Nerus. Even though I really would like to see Magmor/Notos in my collection, they would lose their magic immediately when you see everyone using them all of sudden. I'm not a big fan of the Buccaneer's Bounty concept either when those old Bokor designs are available for everyone. Some players have used lots of money to get that rare design for themselves and some years later everyone can buy them with a price of the cheapest Buccaneer package and handful of pearls.

 

I agree with Destruction on his input about keeping the rare designs rare. I won the Accipiter from bokors and I wore it from then up until everyone bought it in the market. I lost all interest in it because there was nothing special about it anymore. Maybe bring some old rare designs back but mix it up a little such as the Curse Of The Oceans (HellHammer) when they brought it back as the Sea Scare. Instead of it being all silver the sails are green. Just make minor adjustments to it so we can tell if someone had to work for it or if they bought it.
