Grappling hooks would be of benefit. It would help to counterbalance the runners and map jumpers. They should hold even if the ship drags the ship that utilized the hooks, and should remain intact until one of ships is sunk.

Let's see what your fellow pirates think of the idea.

Well that will be like spitting in the wind since there are quite a number of speed and evasion capabilities that would be affected if grappling hooks were deployed. Meaning no more high tailing it when you are getting sunk and boarded in close combat. I recommend seeing what the developers think instead.

Terrible idea, just completely ruining the game Lol. There are already smoke bombs and burning ice, what more do you need? There is no way to escape the credit card warriors who have no skill without map change.

Lets count the number of speed items and compare with those that counter the 2 you reference. Of which smoke bombs are used mostly by their running mates on one who is being shot up and not on the shooter. And smoke bombs are usually deployed by the runner so they can get a head start. That would leave one item ( Burning Ice) that may our may not prevent one from engaging flank speed out of the map. And then if they are frozen its simply a manner of using an unstoppable and they countinue their running. Let us not forget Love ammo which may or may not engage flank on the ship being attacked. Its not so much the map jumping as it is having to sink somebody stern first. Its not the most dignified way of being sunk. The intent is to emulate the way it was and is done when boarding a craft in a hostile manner. The non-hostile manner is to deploy the fenders, pull up along side and double up the lines. The non-hostile Seafight way is to hang around in a stack.

Please allow your fellow pirates their say with out countering everything said. I am watching this thread and looking for both positive and negative arguments as that is the best way to flesh out an idea.

This thread has become self serving and the methodology is not conducive to free and open dialogue. As I previously ask this should to forwarded to the developers for their consideration, which obviously is not going to happen. Please close this thread.

I think it's an interesting idea and have already passed it on in my report. As more players give ideas I will pass those along too. If you feel it has run it's course then feel free to ignore any future post and not participate in the discussion. I appreciate you sharing your idea with us ans look forward to where it may lead. We will leave it open a bit longer. It is actually one of the first original ideas I have seen n a while.

Don't we already have an analog of this with boarding? Is that not what grappling hooks were used for?

As a player with a lot less HP and damage than the CC players and bot players, running is my only option and even with that its usually useless as they also have speed. Against these players, its not worth it to shoot back at all as you are either going to get away or get sunk, never will I win a battle with them.
