    New Accuracy Mechanic Update.

There have been many complaints on the forum, chat, and support about this new update and its impact on how much damage you cause. This post is to help explain the mechanics of the new update and how you can take advantage of it as a player.

    The old mechanic:

The old mechanic worked in a way that virtually gave you 10% more cannons than you were meant to have.

    How this has be changed:

Now, Black Powders has been changed so that it affects accuracy of your cannons. What does this mean to you now? Well, now you cannot hit more. If your total accuracy is tallied to be higher than 100%, that extra percentage will be put "on the back burner." This means that if you are hitting an enemy who has a dodge chance pet or gem, that extra accuracy percentage will go towards offsetting that effect.

    Damage Buff vs. Accuracy Buff

It is very important to note the difference between an Accuracy Buff and a Damage Buff. An accuracy buff will be maxed out and not affect you any more if you are at or over 100% accuracy. However, a damage buff will continue to affect your ammunition's effect allowing you to increase your damage if you are at 100% accuracy.

Accuracy Buffs and accuracy related items include:

    • Cannons (Max of 75%)
    • Agwe's Aim (Skill and a max of 6%)
    • Astrolabe (Castle and a max of 6%)
    • Black Powders (Action Item and 10%)
    • Certain Pets (Max of 10%)
    • Polished Muzzles/Hailstorm (Buff and 10%)
    • Gunner (Crew member and 5%)
    • Rose Quartz Gem (Max of 8.5%)
    • Brothers in Arms (10%)
This brings the grand total of accuracy to: 140.5%

However, only 100% of that will be used and the rest will go to waste or offset your enemy's dodge chance buff.

A damage buff however will still make an impact whether you are at 100% accuracy or not. The damage buff will work in conjunction with boosting your ammunition's potency when you fire your cannons. Therefore, it is wise to use damage modifiers on your ship once you have hit maximum accuracy.

    Example:
    Your total accuracy: 100%
    Your Enemy Dodge Chance: 15%
You now have an accuracy of 85% (100-15) on this specific enemy.

    Another scenario:
    Your total accuracy is 110%
    Active accuracy: 100%
    Extra: 10%
    Your enemy dodge chance: 15%
You now have an accuracy of 95% (100 - 15)+(10)

That 10% extra is due to the left over 10% accuracy that went over the max of 100 and is now used to offset defensive dodge gems.

    How Black Powders have changed

Black Powders used to take 10% more ammunition when it fired to give you the damage boost. Now, it does not use more ammunition when you fire it, it gives you 10% more accuracy. It also gives you a larger critical hit boost when you do score a critical hit. Something important to note is, that while you may have at or over 100% accuracy, Black Powders are still helpful if you have the explosive alchemy skill as it will impact your damage buff.

Update with the Explosive Alchemy Skill

The Explosive Alchemy Skill used to affect how strong your powders were. Now, the explosive alchemy skill is a damage buff. This is why you will still see your ship hit more if you use black powders than if you did not. This new change means that if you do not use black powders, you will not get the buff from your explosive alchemy skill. It is important to note this while setting your ship up.

    Bottom Line

While it may seem like you are hitting for less, it is because you are throwing 10% less ammunition. Once you hit 100% accuracy you can spread your skills, castles, gems, and pets to other parts of your ship to give you a better edge on your enemies. It may seem like a decrease in overall performance, but it now allows you to tweak more stuff on your ship to make you an even stronger pirate. Below is an image to help explain how the system used to work and how the system works now.

In the near future we plan to post a new estimator that will help you estimate your damage and what your damage could be depending on how you arrange you ship. This will be an easy tool for you to use when planning on how to upgrade and buff your ship.
