    Global Server Merge coming!

    Ahoy Pirates,

You are aware now that we are going to have a global merge and that will merge all servers to 6 big mega servers.

The Global Merge will happen, all going well, on Wednesday the 23th of September.

    · After the synch on this day, ALL servers will be merged, so we have 6 Mega Servers then.

This will be a “soft” merge, not a hard server merge. This means that:

    - All guild islands will be reset.

So every guild will lose their islands. They will get all the pearls they have paid for the islands and towers + a kind of bonus as a small compensation.
    - The Chats will stay as it is, so you will still have your own language specific chat.

We will add a global chat (English only), so you can communicate with players from other distributed instances and/or send guild advertisement, recruit new members, ask for PvP etc.
    - You will still see your own instance related event ranking!

E.g. Mega Server 1: GE1 players will see GE1 rankings, not the GE2-GE5 rankings. GE2 players will only see the ranking for GE2, not GE1 + GE3-GE5 etc., etc. (It’s because we merge “softly”)
    - You will meet a lot of other players on sea chart.

Apart from this you will not feel any difference. Accounts & guilds don’t need to be transferred, ship & profile settings will also stay as it is and so on and so on. You will still login with your own instance related URL. E.g. A Germany 2 player will still log into his account with the Germany 2 URL (http://de2.seafight.bigpoint.com/index.es?action=externalHome&noUser=true)

This all means, that the main change which you will see, is that there will be more players on sea chart and therefore A LOT of more activity.

Please use the discussion thread provided to leave your thoughts, comments, hopes and doubts.

    Ahoy Pirates.

Most of you gave us feedback about our server merge proposals. The Question was whether we will go live with 6 mega servers or with 11 mega servers to keep the amount of players on each server a bit smaller.

As a lot of players fear performance issues, we have decided to go for the second proposed setup as we think that we’ll still be able to reach a sufficient amount of players on the smaller sized mega servers as well.

For the future, it is of course possible to change towards the 1st proposed mega server setup, keep in mind however, that whenever we are merging servers into a new cluster, we will have to reset the guild islands. Therefore please don’t calculate with a change to the setup in the near future after the mega servers have been aired on the end of September.

If you want to have a sneak preview on how the performance on a mega server will be, just login to the Open Beta as we have a similar amount of players there.

The plan an Wednesday next week is not to create a mega server after another, but to create all mega servers at once. Therefore we will possibly have a longer downtime than usual.

We will start merging the servers early in the morning, around 8-9 am LST. We will have a long downtime because of the merge, it will last about 4-6 hours.

Please note that, the market place will not be part of the merge, it will stay as it as,this means that on every instance this will be separated. The auctions, hall of fame and lottery are also not affected and will be separated on every instance. For example the DE and EN merge will still mean that DE3 has their own lottery winners DE4 have their own lottery winners and GB1 has their own lottery winners.

Tomorrow we will only merge the Europe instances.

The America servers will be merged later, in 1-2 weeks.

The market place/ammo prize bug will be fixed soon. Those, who have paid too much will get their pearls (or gold) back by script.

On the 18th of November we will move the US instances into the same datacenter.

This will mean a downtime of at least an hour, but if problems arise it can last for the remaining work day - so I would estimate 1 to 6 hours down time.

This will only affect the American/Asian instances. The downtime will start at around 13:15 (Berlin time).

It could happen that some runtimes (e.g. of expiable items) will be off by 3 hours (the time zone difference) after the switch on the two instances we move.

If all goes well, we will then merge the American servers on the 24th and/or 25th of November.

Further information to follow when we receive it.

We will merge the America (+ Asia) instances on Wednesday 25th November.

There will be a downtime of about 2-3 hours, but only for the America instances!

Up to now I can't say exactly when we will start the synch and the restart/maintenance phase, but I will inform you as soon as I get the exact plan.

The synch for the America Server Merge has started. We will also restart all EU Servers, but only the America Servers will have the announced downtime.

Up to now everything is going according to the plan, so the US/LA Servers will be online again in about 2 hours.
