I have read that "Dodge Chance" offsets "Hit Probability" and "Damage Prevention" offsets "Cannon Damage" as far as PvP goes. But what role do "Dodge Chance" and "Damage Prevention" play in PvE? Thanks for your help!

  2. "Dodge Chance" helps you against the NPC ships in higher maps or they you can get Crowns and stuff from I guess. Same does "Damage Prevention" I guess. But "Dodge Chance" does not help so much from Lvl 20- 1 Maps I guess. But in Event it does if the NPC has the "Hit Probalility" Im not sure its just what I think. =)

I think its sorta the other way around...

Dodge and Prevention help against NCP in all maps (one may be better than the other in the 1-20 vs 21+). Its your Hit Probability that makes a big difference in the 21+ maps and events as these NCP have Dodge that you need to overcome. The NCP in the 1-20 maps don't have Dodge, so once you have reached 100% Hit Probability, the rest has no additional benefit.

dodge chance is against players, damage prevention against npc's. do also note that whilde pvp based, dodge chance does have a small effect on npcs also. my own personal setup for fighting skin is to have both equipped. but as rightly mentioned. for events its more the hit probability gem that makes the difference. cannon damage only adds a couple of thousand but the npc and players each have their respective damage prevention and dodge chance. the hit probability overcomes both, allowing you to hit up to 15k harder, depending the target

Not really. I had to hunt back in time through the Forum, but I found below what "Swift" posted on June 19, 2018 regarding this question (is this answer still correct or has it changed)? Thank you Shelby.

    Ahoy,

Dodge chance is used to lower your opponents Hit Probability, Damage Prevention lowers your opponents Cannon Damage bonuses.

Cannon Damage increases the damage the player does by the ammo they use (for example Burning Ice Ammo is 90 per ball), so increasing your Damage Prevention lowers this value.

Hit Probability is the chance of cannons hitting you, so lowering this value with Dodge Chance lowers the amount of cannons hitting you, which in turn lowers all types of damage (ammo damage, elite ammo bonus, damage over time, etc).

    Has this answered your query?

I am wondering if this is accurate on NPCs *not* having Dodge in the 1-20 Maps, versus those above Map Level 20 having Dodge. Can anyone offer a confirmation opinion on Bawdyn's comments? (And thank you Bawdyn)!

Turnip - are you saying you don't see much value in the "Cannon Damage" gem (versus other optional gems to use)? And my thanks to all who have contributed to this thread.

I do use the cannon damage gem when fighting, I'm saying, when compared with the hit probability gem, they both have good value but the hit probability gem has better value

I thought I had read this in the forum at some point, but its also something I've checked empirically.

I have two presets, one that has just 100% Hit prob and then the rest of its focus is on defense and another that has as much Hit Prob as I can do. The first one has the Guardian, she second the Sellsword, so they have different number of cannons. If I shoot NCP with either preset in the 1-20 maps, the difference in damage is exactly the difference in the cannon counts. If I use either of them in the 21+ maps, the 'defense' one hits massively lower HP on NCP and the other hits better than the first, but less than against 1-20 NCP (other than Renown). The 21+ NCP have Dodge, but the amount varies.

There is a possible exception in the 1-20 maps, other than event ships. The admiral ships (Frosty Scar, Maelstrom and Terror of the Waves) seem like they might have a small amount of Dodge as well.
